Introduction:

Welcome to your music history adventure!! You have been chosen to explore the accomplishments of artists, composers, and historical figures from an era of history that you will choose.

Task:

You and the others in your assigned group will design a power point presentation displaying historical information on one composer, one artist, and one historical figure of your choosing from one of the following time periods:

Renaissance

Baroque

Classical

Romantic

Click on an era to discover the dates and some information about that era that will help you decide which one you would like to do your presentation on.

         

Process:

Step one:

Choose an era of history from the list above.

Step two:

Choose a composer, an artist, and an historical figure from the era you have just chosen. Use the resources provided below to find these characters.

Step three:

Find a portrait of each of the three people chosen from your era.

Step four :

Write a short biography of each person including country of origin, professional and personal influences, and area of specialty.

Step five:

Attain at least one good example of the works of both the composer and artist. The composer's example should be an audio or video clip with sound displaying the performance of the composers work.

Step six :

Compile all information and create a presentation on power point to be presented for you peers.

Romantic period music -this site provides a wonderful explanation of the ideals of the romantic period as well as characteristics of the era's music.

Romanticism in Art -the author of this site discusses the origins and characteristics of romantic art

ArtCyclopedia -this site provides a list of romantic artists and examples of their works as well as other information about the romantic era.

Recapitulation

Each presentation must include:

  • -A portrait and short biography of each of the important persons chosen from your era
  • -Examples of each the composer and artist's works. The composer's work should be an audio example in midi format integrated into the power point presentation.
  • -A good explanation of why the historical figure held importance in his/her era. Why should this person be remembered?
  • -Creative use of power point program. Don't make it boring for your peers!
  • **Extra Credit**

  • - Name the composers in the portraits and provide the artist and title of the artwork shown on this WebQuest site?

Conclusion:

In your class, discuss the similarities and differences between the people and their works from the different eras.
Be sure to use C.U.R.B.E. in your analysis of the different genres of art.
